In August I wrote about Sweet Pea’s first haircut. Now that he is getting bigger and his hair is growing a lot faster we are going to have to start using the clippers to cut his hair instead of using scissors to just trim his hair. Tonight we had our first experience using the clippers to cut his hair. Sweet Pea went back and forth from being ok to crying several times. Hopefully the more times we do this the more he will get used to it.
Now it’s all over and he looks so cute with all his hair cut off!! This event is just another reminder that Sweet Pea is no longer a baby. He is quickly turing into a little boy!
I am so glad that we own our own clippers and we don’t have to waste money having to pay for haircuts. Daddy does a great job!
I have a confession to make. This is the first election I have ever cared enough about to vote. I have never actually voted before this election. And yes, I did vote. By mail actually. Which was quite nice. No waiting in long lines or having to deal with people yelling in my face about who to vote for.
Anyways, my reasons for voting this election may surprise some. I didn’t vote because this election has a black candidate or woman VP candidate. As long as the candidate can do the job I could care less what they look like. I didn’t vote to get my free Starbucks coffee. I mean come on, if that is why you vote then I really don’t think you should get the free coffee. I didn’t vote for me.
I voted for this little man right here:
My whole world was changed when he was born. Things that I had never even considered or things I even laughed at became important to me. I am voting for his future. I don’t really care about what happens to me. I can take care of myself. But he is depending on me to make this place better for him. He is what gets me out of bed every morning wanting to make the world a better place.
Right now public schools are a mess. They are pretty much not an option at all. The Earth is falling apart, and it’s more than global warming. Our country has gone from hating one type of person to another. People say that we are moving forward, but is that really true? I don’t think so. People are encouraged to live off the government and nobody wants to take responsibility for their own actions. I voted so my son can hopefully grow up in a country that he can love and be proud of. I voted so that hopefully my son will see that the government does not solve our problems and we need to be responsible for ourselves. I want somebody in office who shows who they are through their actions, not just their talk. I want our country to be a better place for my son.
This year for Halloween Sweet Pea was a pumpkin. He was so cute! Instead of taking him trick-or-treating, we decided to take him to the nursing home that we volunteer at to show the residents his costume. They all loved it! While we were there I decided that this is something we will do every year. The residents of the nursing home get much more out of seeing the little ones in costume than anyone else.
A few weeks ago my mom and I took Sweet Pea to visit family in West Virginia/Virginia. So far I have written about it here, here, here, and here. After finally finishing the move I have had a little time to put the rest of the pictures from the trip on the computer and share them. So get ready for a long post filled with lots of pictures.
My great-grandmother lives in Virginia on the same farm that my grandmother grew up on. She actually still lives in the house that my great-grandfather built. Here are a few pictures of me and Sweet Pea on the farm.
While there I got the pleasure of visiting lots of family. Here are some pictures with my cousins. They are two of my favorite people in the world and they are both very pregnant!! It is so fun to see them and there is never enough time. I always leave wishing we lived closer.
Our kids are the three great-great grandchildren of the family. Soon there will be five!! Here are the three great-great grand kids:
And here they are with their great-great- grandmother. We tried to get a picture with just the kids but they just wouldn’t sit still, so the mommies joined them.
And here are our awesome five generation pictures. Great-great grandma is 91 and still going strong. She also still lives by herself.
On the way back to West Virginia from Virginia we took a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The views were beautiful. The pictures do not do it justice.
One of the stops along the parkway is Mabry Mill. We decided it would be fun to get out and walk around. Here are the pics from that:
And of course every journey sadly ends with a trip to the airport. And if you have ever traveled with a baby you know how much stuff you have to bring with you. Here is Nana and Sweet Pea with all the luggage:
Good Bye West Virginia! Can’t wait to see you again!
Well we are officially moved in to our new apartment! Yeah! The last week or so has been a little stressful. Elmo had already started his new job so Sweet Pea and I were left to do the last minute packing and cleaning of the old apartment. And we all know how helpful a seventeen month old can be. Friday my dad and I loaded up the moving truck with all of our stuff and Saturday we drove down here to Dallas and unloaded into the new place. So far we have most of the kitchen unpacked and the rest of the boxes are stacked in the living room. Sweet Pea’s room is pretty much all set up. That was a priority for us because we want him to feel at home right away with all of his things. As for the rest of it, I am thinking it will be a couple of weeks before we get totally unpacked and settled. Either that or I am going to get sick of all the boxes and throw them away. Here is a pic of the messy boxes and our makeshift end table:
We head to Disney World on Wednesday for a family vacation! I am very excited! The trip couldn’t have come at a better time this year. After this move I think we are all ready for a get-away.
This spot in Harpers Ferry, WV has been THE picture spot my entire life. It is the place where the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers meet. I have memories from when I was very young running up the hill to this spot to pose for a picture. Sometimes we stay just long enough to take a picture and sometimes we stay to explore. There have been times it has been freezing cold and we are the only crazy people out rushing up the hill to take a picture and other times all the tourists are out exploring and there is no way to get a picture without someone you don’t know in the background.
As much as I despised the tradition as a child, I am now doing the same thing with Sweet Pea. As a parent I can now understand my mom’s desire to see us in the same spot every year. It’s tradition. It is actually very cool to go back and look at all the pictures from year to year. So here are the latest Harpers Ferry pictures.
Can you believe that when I was little those bars were not there? The picture was definitely prettier then.
When I first started to blog the main reason was, and still is, to keep a record of our lives. The first year of my son’s life went by so fast and I have almost nothing written down about it. This way I can look back and see what he was up to and how he is growing. It is such a fun thing! Little did I know there was a HUGE community of moms doing the same thing. How fun it has been to meet other mom’s through blogging. We only know each other virtually, but there is a connection there. We laugh and cry together. Share our stories and offer advice. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I am glad I did!
One of the first people I “met” was Sarah. She is such a wonderful person and fabulous mother. I love checking out her blog and reading about little Evie’s adventures. Evie is a little older than Sweet Pea so it is fun to see what he will be up to in a short time. Well you can guess how surprised I was to visit her site one day a few weeks ago to read that she had given me a bloggy award! I had no idea such a thing existed. But I was so honored. Thanks Sarah for this award!
Now the time has come to pass it along to someone else. I couldn’t decide who I wanted to give it to so there is a tie. I don’t know if there are any rules on this, but I am going to pass it to two people.
The first person is Maria over at I Love you More than Cookies. She is a great mother and I am learning a lot from her. She is in the process of adopting and it is fun and interesting to learn all about the process and experience the joy with her and her family. We agree on absolutely nothing, except sharing a love for our children and the Lord. But that is part of the fun! I like seeing someone else’s perspective on life and if we can learn a little from each other than it’s all worth it.
The second person is Nell over at Casual Friday Everyday. Another fabulous mommy. I am having fun watching her belly grow and can’t wait to see little Dash when he finally makes an appearance. She has such a positive outlook on life and I find myself wanting to check her site every morning to see what she has to say.
Thanks to these two moms for sharing your experiences! Yall deserve this award!
Today was a hard day. We had to say goodbye to Daddy for the week. He started his new job last week and then came to visit us for the weekend. Sweet Pea and I are still at the old place packing and seeing to last minute move details. But this time next week we will be moved into out new apartment and all together again!
To give Daddy a proper send off we all went to Starbucks to enjoy a drink together. Sweet Pea got a special treat of Organic Vanilla Milk, which is something he has never had before. He gulped it down! Here are Daddy and Sweet Pea enjoying each other and their drinks:
Here is one of Sweet Pea enjoying his milk. It was definitely a treat for him. He is not used to having anything so sweet! I tasted it and it tasted exactly like vanilla ice cream. Yum!
Here Sweet Pea is being a good citizen. It was so awesome. He finished with his drink, saw the trash can, and threw it away. I didn’t even have to tell him to do it! How funny is that?! I have taught him well.
We will miss you Daddy and can’t wait to see you next weekend!!!!
