Our public library has a section where they put all the books they are going to get rid of and you can buy
them for fifty cents. It is awesome! I know they clean out their kid’s section on Monday and put out books for sell on Tuesday so I go and try to get the pick of the litter.
A few months ago I picked up this book called Hush Little Alien by Daniel Kirk. It is funny lyrics to the tune of Hush Little Baby. It has turned it to the book that we read every night right before Sweet Pea goes into his crib for the night. He starts laughing when he sees the cover because he knows what’s coming and he giggles through the whole thing. Here is how the song goes:
Hush Little Alien don’t say a word
Papa’s gonna catch you a Goonie Bird
If that Goonie Bird Flies too far
Papa’s gonna lasso you a shooting star
If that shooting star’s too hot
Papa’s gonna catch you an astronaut
If that astronaut should fight
Papa’s gonna bring you a satellite
If that satellite gets away
Papa’s gonna take you to the milky way
If that milk has got no cream
Papa’s gonna buy you a laser beam
If that laser makes things melt
Papa’s gonna get you a new tool belt
With that tool belt on your hip
You’re gonna build a rocket ship
And when that rocket ship takes flight
Papa’s gonna give you a kiss good night!
After we sing the song Sweet Pea lies down and we rub his back for a little while and then leave. It’s awesome how kids start anticipating their own routine. Sweet Pea knows exactly what is going to happen and he is comforted by it. It makes for a smooth evening!
